Digital twins serve to virtually represent real installations and processes in order to control, manage, and optimize them. The solution presented by Roche impresses the jury not only through its technological innovative power, but above all through its exceptional potential for cost optimization – and in particular for cost avoidance already at the planning stage. New Roche production facilities are consistently mapped digitally on the basis of BIM data. This enables simulation of the interplay between all production machinery and logistics, right through to optimal and sustainable staff deployment. While this approach is typically used in practice for individual silos of complex systems, Roche has merged these silos into a networked overall system, further developed it with AI components, and thereby created a remarkably effective instrument. The jury recognizes the high business value achieved through this cohesive overall concept and the consistent use of state-of-the-art technology. With this solution, Roche is setting a new standard for the digital transformation of industrial production processes.
