Digital Excellence Award
Short description
The Baden Cantonal Hospital has established innovative processes that exemplify its corporate philosophy of continuous improvement and innovation. A central platform integrates systems such as patient terminals, patient call systems, transport logistics, cleaning and ERP. This collaboration enables specialist staff to perform tasks seamlessly and care for patients in near real time.
The new automated and cross-functional processes improve the efficiency of the admission and discharge process and the patient experience. This reduces the workload on specialist staff, allowing them to focus more on caring for patients. Patients also benefit from a stay with personalised care and smooth processes. Every week, over 500 patient admissions and discharges, around 270 hotel orders and more than 400 patient calls are handled efficiently. Targeted process automation has reduced unqualified patient calls by 30% and optimised daily walking distances per ward and shift by up to three hours.
The efficiency gains lead to savings in working time, increased revenue and greater patient satisfaction. Given the shortage of skilled workers and cost pressures in the healthcare sector, this is an excellent example of how successful collaboration and automation can create added value in healthcare.
Jury Statement
The project impressively demonstrates how digital transformation can succeed across disciplines. Intelligent ‘connecting the dots’ seamlessly links processes, relieving employees of administrative tasks and giving them more time for patients. The project proves how practical digitalisation creates real added value for people – both in everyday clinical practice and for the future of healthcare. For the jury, it was a clear finalist.
