Digital Excellence Award
Short description
The name ‘Amtomat’ may seem unusual at first glance – and that was intentional. We wanted a name that would stand out, stick in people's minds and convey what it's all about: ‘Amt + Automat + Automation’ (authority + vending machine + automation). A digital administration portal that simply works – available around the clock, easily accessible and the basis for automated processes. Amtomat is an open, multi-client capable platform for digital municipal services. It was developed by the municipalities of Uster, Horgen, Thalwil and Kloten in collaboration with JAXForms – supported by DVS and egovpartner.
Under the motto ‘develop collaboratively, use collectively’, Amtomat pursues the goal of providing digital services online in a uniform, barrier-free and consistent manner – from application to secure delivery to the account. The platform combines open interfaces, ease of use and joint inter-municipal development. This creates a new form of digital collaboration – practical, scalable and connectable across municipal boundaries. The resulting association coordinates operations, further development and the accession of additional municipalities. With open standards, open source and joint financing, a sustainable digital ecosystem for public administration is created.
Jury Statement
Several municipalities in the canton of Zurich have formed an association to develop a joint, scalable SaaS platform for digital government services with a solution provider. Under the motto ‘develop collaboratively, use collectively’, the pragmatic ‘Amtomat’ modular system has been created, enabling municipalities of all sizes to quickly create added value for the population on a small budget. The solution has already been tested in four pilot municipalities and is in preparation in over 80 municipalities. The platform has great potential for further and rapid expansion.
